Rejoice! The under-produced musical The Wiz is having her grand return and we can’t help but breaking out a little "Brand New Day" dance. (No but seriously, I had to sit down…it was all too much.)
The seven-time Tony-Award winning Best Musical by Charlie Smalls and William F. Brown will air live on NBC on December 3, 2015. Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Smash, Chicago, the Oscars, Hairspray) team up with Cirque du Soleil to bring you the TV event and a Broadway revival in the 2016 season—both to be directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon.
So in celebration of this exciting news, we are breaking out so many “Home” videos, you’ll feel like your mind spun around in space. Here’s our ranking of YouTube’s best 20 “Home” performances.
20. Beyonce
Baby Beyonce.
19. DeQuina Moore
The gown and the hair are almost as good as the song.
18. Sean Green Jr.
Props to Mr. Sean Green Jr. Keeping it low, keeping it emotional, not trying to oversell it.
17. Amber Riley
16. Telly Leung
Crystal clear and beautiful with just enough flair.
15. Melinda Doolittle
14. N'Kenge
Slayed it!
13. Nikki Renée Daniels
:::Slow clap:::
12. Kayla Morton
This is a teenager singing in her high school musical...just sit with that for a hot minute.
11. Diana Ross, The Wiz movie
The tears are a nice touch, and God save the Queen, but the vocals aren’t the same as some of the other ladies and gents down the list.
10. Keala Settle
Ms. Settle takes her time with it, and that’s more than ok. Even the lyric flub was fine.
9. Tituss Burgess
'Cause Tituss is strong as hell.
8. Ashanti
7. Frenchie Davis
Oh she went there. Frenchie gives you “Home” acapella. #Respect
6. Jazmine Sullivan
She was 11 in 1999 when this video was made. I’ve never seen an 11-year-old do this in my life. I would still be on the floor, 16 years later.
5. Jennifer Hudson
According to the video description, this is the first time The Color Purple star ever sang this so…if so, give her another Oscar.
4. Clay Aiken
Vocals and soul—Get it, Clay!
3. Heather Headley
Just when you thought it’d never be better than Bodyguard or “Gods Love Nubia,” the Tony winner gives you “Home.”
2. Stephanie Mills
There can only be one. Hearing it in Mills’ voice feels… like home.
1. Whitney Houston
Mid-office standing ovation.
