The Tony Award-winning musical comedy A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder is getting even more British as it welcomes beloved West End star (and two time Olivier nominee) Scarlett Strallen to cast beginning February 10. Strallen takes over the role of scheming social climber Sibella—making this her second Broadway musical (Mary Poppins was the debut back in 2008). So why not spend a half hour of your snow day lost in YouTube videos of Broadway’s new leading lady.
Let’s kick it off with some Poppins.
One of Strallen’s Olivier-nominated performances was as Kathy Seldon (the Debbie Reynolds role) in the stage musical Singin’ in the Rain. Just look at her sing and dance the big number “Good Morning” at the 2012 Olivier Awards.
What an effortless, clear soprano.
Here she is serving some Julie Andrews/Mary Martin realness with a Sound of Music medley.
Scarlett and Peter Jöback make a fierce pair in these clips from Phantom and Moulin Rouge. (Why isn’t Moulin Rouge a stage musical yet?!)
And her performance as Cassie in the recent revival of A Chorus Line was so incendiary, it had theatre folks on both sides of the Atlantic buzzing.
