After starring as Wednesday Addams in the The Addams Family national tour, Cortney Wolfson returned to Broadway in March of 2014 as Charlie Price's upwardly mobile fiance Nicola in the Tony Award-winning Best Musical Kinky Boots
. BroadwayBox caught up with the Legally Blonde and Les Miz alum to talk about her favorite Kinky memories, what she loves about Nicola, and tour life.1. Moment in Kinky Boots I still look forward to when I arrive at the theatre:
I love the opening of the show—“The Most Beautiful Thing in the World”. Every day I look forward to singing it, and every time it feels exciting to run up to that shoe pedestal.
2. Most redeeming quality about the seemingly hard to love Nicola:
Nicola is hard-working and determined. If she could learn to be more selfless, she’d make Charlie a wonderful wife! But at the end of the day, one of her best qualities and her biggest downfalls is her inability to settle.
3. English accent idol I’m serving you in Kinky Boots:
Keira Knightley—I’ve been obsessed with her teethy English accent since the days of Pirates of the Caribbean.
4. Iconic pop culture shoe I’d rather rock, ruby slipper or glass slipper:
Glass slipper—I’ve always wanted to be a Disney Princess.
5. Musical I’d love to perform with my husband, Curtis Holbrook:
Me as Vanessa and Curtis as Usnavi in In the Heights… Yes I KNOW that will never happen. But he loves to rap and I love to belt about elevated trains!
6. Thing I liked most about tour life and thing I disliked most about it:
Um… THE SHOPPING. I disliked not having a home-base. I love being home with my husband more than just about anything, and tour doesn’t allow you to call any one city/hotel “home".
7. My most memorable day at Kinky Boots was when:
This is hard because I’ve had so many!! The day I met Oprah? The day Gay Marriage was legalized? The day Haven Burton gave me a Beta fish named Haven? The day Jen Perry and the Kinky girls threw me a bridal shower tea party? The list goes on…
8. Album I completely wore out in high school:
Dave Matthews’ Remember Two Things.
9. Last TV show I binge watched:
Damages.
10. The musical that made me fall in love with theatre:
Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party.
