One of the best new musicals to premiere off-Broadway in 2019 was Dave Malloy’s Octet, which ran at the Signature Theatre. The a cappella musical was an examination of our obsession and dependence on our cell phones, set at a cell phone addiction support group. Throughout the course of the one-act musical, you meet the eight people in the group and find out what each of their relationships with their cell phone is like. One of the standout moments from Octet (other than the killer tracks "Refresh", “Monster”, and "Solo") is Alex Gibson’s song “Candy”. An alumni of Dave Malloy's Broadway Hit Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, Alex played Henry, an adorkable and eager guy addicted to playing Candy Crush on his phone. Check out the track below, and stream the incredible live Octet today!
