Each day, the Bbox team trolls YouTube for the hot clip—sometimes it's a brand-new moment and sometimes it's a throwback to an oldie but goodie. No matter what praise hands are shot up, pearls are clutched and the repeat button is hit.
"Gold" from Once (Will Swenson)
Ulterior Motives: This casting is so good! The dynamic Will Swenson will be grabbing a guitar and bringing those phenomenal vocals of his to portray the Grammy Award®-winning singer/songwriter Neil Diamond in the brand new biomusical A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical. The creative team includes Tony Award winning director Michael Mayer, Tony Award winning choreographer Steven Hoggett and Academy Award nominated Anthony McCaren writing the book to support songs from Neil Diamond's vast song catalog. Besides "Crunchy Granola Suite," "Cracklin' Rosie," "Holly Holy," "Forever In Blue Jeans" and more - who has not sung "Sweet Caroline" at any event in their lives?! The musical is set to play Boston's Emerson Colonial Theatre this summer June 21 - July 31st.
Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Full circle moment Friday? Sure! We found a gorgeous clip of Will singing "Gold" accompanying himself on guitar from Once which had movement provided by... Steven Hoggett, the choreographer of A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical! Will is a fabulous guitar player and he sounds amazing on this cover. We can't wait to hear his take on Neil's tunes because as we saw in Hair and Priscilla Queen of the Desert he can perform showstopper after showstopper with ease. Our favorite moment from this clip is at 2:57 when he really digs into those dissonant chords and comes back in at 3:11 with all the gentleness of the lyric.
