Each day, the Bbox team trolls YouTube for the hot clip—sometimes it's a brand-new moment and sometimes it's a throwback to an oldie but goodie. No matter what praise hands are shot up, pearls are clutched and the repeat button is hit.
"You Should Be Loved" from Side Show (Norm Lewis)
Ulterior Motives: Mr. Norm Lewis will be appearing on Broadway Profiles this Sunday March 21st at 6pm EST (for tri-staters!) on PIX11. Check your local listings! Norm will be talking to Tamsen Fadal all about acting in the Spike Lee directed Netflix film Da 5 Bloods. Norm has such an incredible Broadway resume including the title role in The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, The Who's Tommy, The Little Mermaid and The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess. When thinking of a clip to highlight this beloved Tony Award nominated performer one song immediately comes to mind - especially with our recent article about Broadway in the 1990's. Norm's Act 2 number "You Should Be Loved" from 1997's Side Show is so outstanding. His enormous, glorious voice soars so beautifully on this heartwrenching number.
Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: This special concert 54 Sings Side Show happened in 2014 and you would never know 17 years had passed between Alice Ripley and Norm performing in the original Broadway cast. This video is like jumping in a time capsule. To select one ultimate moment is going to be next to impossible! The duet between he and Alice is gorgeous. We love the sung conversation at 2:30 where Norm's character of Jake lays his heart on the line to Alice's character of Violet Hilton. The moment that gives us goosebumps every time without fail is 4:58 - 5:45 (plus that drum line!!). A special shout out to 5:26 - 5:29 which is every bit Broadway musical theatre perfection.
