Each day, the Bbox team trolls YouTube for the hot clip—sometimes it's a brand-new moment and sometimes it's a throwback to an oldie but goodie. No matter what praise hands are shot up, pearls are clutched and the repeat button is hit.
"All That Jazz"/"Roxie"/"Hot Honey Rag" from Chicago (Bianca Marroquín)
Ulterior Motives: We have a history maker in our midst! Bianca Marroquín, after two decades of playing Miss Roxie Hart in the longest running American musical on Broadway, Chicago, steps into Velma Kelly's buckle shoes. The only other Roxie to make this role switch from Roxie to Velma is Ruthie Henshall. Chita Rivera and Bebe Neuwirth, of the original Broadway and original revival casts respectively, played Velma and then Roxie (with Bebe getting extra credit for playing Matron Mama Morton too!). To bring it all full circle, Bianca stepped up to the "Big Spender" line as Chita Rivera in the acclaimed miniseries Fosse/Verdon. This casting is so exciting, not to mention Ana Villafañe as Roxie Hart and Lillias White as Matron Mama Morton, we can't wait for Bianca to deliver "All That Jazz."
Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Wait until you see this clip. At a concert Bianca held in 2017, she performed this unbelievable medley with a fabulous company of dancers. The performance is the best foreshadowing of this casting news. We love the fantastic lifts she added to "Roxie" and the true fun she was having during "Hot Honey Rag." Our ultimate moment is the absolutely crazy amazing "All That Jazz" reprise at the end of this medley. Buckle. Up. 3:44 to the end. The choreography, the full vibrato, the growl, and that final note. See you at the Ambassador Theater starting September 14th!
