The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) announced the winners of this year’s NYMF Awards for Excellence. The largest annual musical theatre festival in America, NYMF offers dozens of concerts, readings, full-out productions and special events, and these were the crop of the musicals that rose above the rest. Best Musical: Leaving Eden
Outstanding Music: Cordelia O’Driscoll for Buried
Outstanding Book: Tom Williams for Buried
Outstanding Lyrics: Jenny Waxman for Leaving Eden
Outstanding Ensemble: Tie between Buried & Flying Lessons
Audience Choice Award winner for Best of the Fest Production: Overture
Audience Choice Award winner for Best of the Fest Reading: Mississippi
Audience Choice Award winner for Best of the Fest Concert: The Oldenburg Suite
Additional winners: Outstanding Direction went to NJ Aqwuna for Till; Outstanding Performance in a Lead Role went to Elena Shaddow for My Real Mother and Sarah Anne Martinez for Leaving Eden; Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role went to Michelle Coban for Flying Lessons and Judith Franklin for Till; Kathleen Wessel won Outstanding Choreography for Flying Lessons; and Outstanding Overall Design Leaving Eden, awarded to Alayna Klein (Scenic Design), Amanda Clegg Lyon (Lighting Design), Whitney Locher (Costume Design), and Kimberly O’Loughlin (Sound Design).
