Lauren Patten (Fun Home, The Wolves) not only stops the show, but often receives the ultra-rare mid-show standing ovation, for her raw, angry, and breathtaking performance of “You Oughta Know” in the new musical Jagged Little Pill, which officially opens Broadway today. Featuring the music from Alanis Morrissette’s beloved Grammy-winning album of the same name and an original book by Diablo Cody (Juno, The United States of Tara), Jagged Little Pill is 2019’s wokest musical, juggling several issues facing “the perfect American family”. One plot is a teenage love story between Frankie Healy (Celia Rose Gooding) and her best friend and girlfriend, Jo (played by Patten). When Frankie explores her sexuality with the new boy at school, Jo is destroyed and betrayed and performs Alanis’ breakup anthem “You Oughta Know”. Hear the number off the new cast recording below, but rush to Broadway’s Broadhurst Theatre because listening to it here can’t compare to experiencing it live.
