If you’re working toward an EGOT and you won a Tony, the quickest way to the G is by your cast recording winning a Grammy (like Mormon’s Scott Rudin and Robert Lopez). Now this year the five albums battling it out for the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album are Hedwig, Aladdin, Beautiful, West Side Story and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder—somehow our album of the year, this year's Tony-winning Best Score Bridges of Madison County, got snubbed here.
We won’t know which album wins until this weekend, but it doesn’t really matter if A Genlteman’s Guide takes the big prize because the Tony-winning musical and its Tony-winning headliner Jefferson Mays already won the internet with this viral video of Mays covering every song nominated for Record of the Year as different deceased members of the D’Ysquith family.
