Like a new freshman class heading to college, this fall New York welcomes a new crop of jukebox musicals to its embrace: the 70-song spectacular Moulin Rouge
, a new bio-musical about Tina Turner titled Tina: The Tina Turner Musical , an original musical inspired by the music of Alanis Morrissette's Grammy-winning album Jagged Little Pill and the futuristic Queen rock musical We Will Rock You. The most basic definition is a musical that uses a popular or iconic artist's music catalog as the score of the show. Some jukebox musicals tell that artist's story (like Beautiful: The Carole King Musical or Jersey Boys), some infuse popular music into an original story (like Head Over Heels, Mamma Mia!, or Rock of Ages), and some are more musical revues (like Smokey Joe's Cafe, After Midnight, or Ain't Misbehavin').
