Photographer Jenny Anderson (who shot our fabulous Classic New York Films and Tony Awards Parties photos) brings BroadwayBox backstage for an exclusive series capturing Broadway companies getting ready to take the stage. For the latest installment, Jenny heads to the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, home to the hit disco bio-musical Summer: The Donna Summer Musical. Scroll on as Jenny captures the hot stuff and bad girls working hard for the money at Broadway's Summer: The Donna Summer Musical.
Kicking it off with Tony Award winner LaChanze, who was nominated again for her performance as Diva Donna in Summer. For her, the journey begins with some lashes.
Then the wig comes on.
Then it’s all fierce and flawless.
Ok, time to let LaChanze get into her stunning first gown, while we go visit some other Donnas.
Tony nominee Ariana DeBose welcomes us into her dressing room for some tea.
Then it’s time for some pre-show stretching. Ms. DeBose dances the house down as Disco Donna in Summer and she needs to be warm.
Oh hey, breakout Broadway baby Storm Lever! Storm makes her B’way debut as Duckling Donna. PS: nice water bottle!
Next we drop in on the hilarious Jared Zirilli, who co-stars as Donna’s husband, Bruce Sudano.
Jody Reynard & Harris M. Turner get some last minute phone time in before this 90-minute train takes off full speed.
The radiant Jessica Rush (who is serving lewks in this musical as Joyce Bogart).
Now we visit the ladies’ dressing room to find Kaleigh Cronin and Anissa Fox.
Over at her station, Angelica Beliard is serving some glamour profile.
Ok, Ari is legit glowing as she gets her mics put on.
Nothing like a red lip to make ya pop.
It’s just about time for Ariana to get into her opening look.
Back in Storm Lever’s dressing room, the young star is getting wigged up for her entrance alongside the other two Donnas.
Angel!!
One last look from Ms. LaChanze before she heads downstairs for her entrance.
Cue “I Feel Love” because LaChanze has arrived and “it’s so good”.
Looks like Drew Wildman Foster found the perfect spot for some light reading.
Anissa Felix applies one last layer to the lips before heading to the stage.
It’s Aaron Krohn, who does double duty as Donna’s record producer Neil Bogart and her nasty ex Gunther.
This photo is everything. Tell me you’re not obsessed.
Queen.
Just a casual Donna Summer to Donna Summer kiki.
And a little over the shoulder to give you life.
Places for the three Donnas.
LaChanze ascends to the stage for her big entrance and the start of the show.
Then Ariana does a little touch up for her next entrance to sing the classic “Love to Love You Baby”
New wig, who dis.
SERVING IT! Cover photo. Lock screen. Wallpaper—you name it.
Ari shares a laugh with dresser Teale Dvornik and the man behind all three Donna’s epic wigs, Mark Bailey Capalbo.
Just stunning.
