Photographer Jenny Anderson (who shot our fabulous Classic New York Films and Tony Awards Parties photos) brings BroadwayBox backstage for an exclusive new series capturing Broadway companies getting ready to take the stage. For the latest installment, Jenny went backstage at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre where Wicked
has run for the last 14 years (opening night was October 30, 2003!). Scroll on for lots of Oz fun.We begin with Amanda Jane Cooper, who makes her Broadway debut by bubble as Glinda the Good.
Just a sip and then the Glindafying process can begin.
"It's good to see me isn't it?"
Check out all the fabulous Glinda hats and crowns on the wall!
Speaking of which/witch.
Just stunning.
Then it's time to check in with the musical's other leading lady, Jackie Burns, as she gets green thanks to Wicked makeup supervisor, Craig Jessup.
Since this is a big process, we'll jump back once she's a bit greener.
Next, we head over to see Tony Award winner Rondi Reed (August: Osage County) who returns as the duplicitous Madame Morrible.
Mood AF. Seriously iconic.
Over in his dressing room, Broadway's current Fiyero, Ashley Parker Angel, gets some signing out of the way.
Next, it's time to get ready to slip into the white Fiyero pants.
Then it's over to see The Wizard, P.J. Benjamin.
P.J. has been in over 100 productions and has been a part of the Wicked family for 6 years!
Before the show, P.J. relaxes with music and coloring.
In his dressing room, Jye Frasca gets his hair high to play everyone's favorite munchkin, Boq.
Next it's over to see Boq's "Dancing Through Life" partner, Kristen Martin.
Kristen Martin stars as Nessarose, a role she played on tour before joining the B'way company.
"Because you are so beautiful!"
Jeff Award winner Kathy Santen plays the Midwife who delivers Elphaba in the opening number.
Sunset Boulevard and Heathers alum Katie Ladner prepares to take the stage as a citizen of Oz.
Time to check back in with Glinda, Amanda Jane Cooper as she gets ready to step into her first gown.
Come on with this!! Profile pic/cover photo/desktop/lock screen.
Now fully green, Jackie Burns continues her pre-show process.
Piece by piece the first "Wizard and I" look comes together.
Just beautiful, and also look for the famous Elphie hat in the background.
Can't forget the hands!
A few more final touches then Jackie is ready to defy gravity.
The company heads to places for the opening number "No One Mourns the Wicked". That's Jye and William Ryall sharing a smile.
Yup, that's Nessa (Kristen Martin) as an Ozian for the first number.
Kristen and her onstage sister, Jackie Burns, stroll together to the stage. See the company of Wicked onstage live at the Gershwin Theatre.
