Photographer Jenny Anderson (who shot our fabulous Classic New York Films photos) brings BroadwayBox backstage for an exclusive new series capturing Broadway companies getting ready to take the stage. Most recently Jenny was backstage at Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre to capture the company of the Tony-nominated Best Musical (and our show of the month!) Groundhog Day
as they prepared to tell the story of how one small town helped change the life of jaded a local weatherman.Coming down 52nd Street is Groundhog Day’s Tony-nominated headliner Andy Karl—just casually getting in a last-minute shave.

Though he has no time to rest during awards season, 2017 OCC & Drama Desk winner Andy Karl always has time to joke.

Now it’s time to check in with the musical’s incredibly charming leading lady, Barrett Doss.
After the wig cap is on, it’s time for earrings.
We leave Barrett as she finishes up her Rita Hanson makeup.
Then, we capture the real-life reboot of the iconic ‘70s sitcom Three’s Company and visit the shared dressing room of three HILARIOUS featured players: Josh Lamon, Andrew Call, and Raymond J. Lee.
Andrew Call (who understudies Andy Karl’s Phil Connors) enjoys some iPhone and Sudoku before the Friday night performance.
You might recognize that smile from Grease Live! or Amazon’s original Zelda Fitzgerald series Z.
Raymond J. Lee and Andrew share the LOL Groundhog Day drinking anthem “Nobody Cares” and the gut-busting car chase that follows.
But as you can see, clearly Josh Lamon is king of this castle. #IsntHeCute
Next, we drop by William Parry and John Sanders as they enjoy a cup of pre-show coffee.
Audience favorite John Sanders co-stars as Ned Ryerson, who first appears as an annoying insurance salesman from Phil’s past but later reveals a deeper, richer backstory.
Groundhog Day’s William Parry appeared in the original Broadway productions of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George and Passion, as well as Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar.
A quick hello to studious Groundhog Day swings Natalie Wisdom and Jordan Grubb.
Sean Montgomery may have a salad in hand but that’s not stopping him from sharing some sweets with Raymond J. Lee.
Then it’s off to check in with the ladies of Groundhog Day.
Katy Geraghty applies her stage makeup as she transforms to spunky, adorable Phil Connors fan Debbie.
Taylor Iman Jones gets her wig cap in place.
Jenna Rubaii makes her Broadway debut as Joelle and understudying Rita and Nancy.
Katy Geraghty hydrates before taking the stage.
Next stop in our backstage tour is the guys’ dressing room.
Travis Waldschmidt captures Michael Fatica rolling it out before the show. Also note Michael’s fat suit in the background.
In addition to Groundhog Day, Gerard Canonico’s NY resume includes Spring Awakening, Dear Evan Hansen, American Idiot, and Bare—so he knows a thing or two about the modern Broadway musical.
Michael Fatica keeps the beard looking tight and right.
Finally, we find Rebecca Faulkenberry as she heads to her dressing room to get ready to play Punxsutawney’s lovelorn vixen Nancy.
Rebecca begins her makeup beside the hysterical Heather Ayers.
Here’s Heather’s before.
Then here she is as Mrs. Lancaster, the sweet, dotty woman who runs Punxsutawney’s bed and breakfast. Meet all the wonderful, funny characters and the talented cast at Groundhog Day at Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre.
