Photographer Jenny Anderson (who captures Tony Awards parties like no one else in town) brings BroadwayBox backstage at this year's hottest shows for an exclusive look at Broadway casts getting ready to take the stage. First up is the new hit musical Come From Away
, which tells the true story of 7,000 people who found themselves stranded in a small Newfoundland town during 9/11 and how the town tirelessly worked to make them feel at home. It's a Wednesday before a two-show day and Rodney Hicks prepares by meditating.
Though for Joel Hatch, it seems coffee is the best way to get ready for the double header.
Likewise for the wonderful and charming Caesar Samayoa.
Astrid Van Wieren begins with a cup of coffee high over 45th Street.
Next, Astrid shares a laugh with dressing roommate, Petrina Bromley.
😂 😂
In Astrid & Petrina's dressing room, there flies a flag of Newfoundland alongside a portrait of Ronald Regan's first wife, Jane Wyman.
Showstopper Jenn Colella arrives ready to slay the two-show day.
Let's check in on Geno Carr, who makes his Broadway debut as Oz & others.
Geno goes over to check in and chat with Kendra Kassebaum.
Then Kendra begins her pre-show process.
Her dressing roommate, Jenn Colella, also gets in on the action, applying her full show beat.
Back on the guys' floor, Joel Hatch and Lee MacDougall share some macarons.
Then Lee starts on his pre-show stretching.
Looks like it's time for Tony nominee Chad Kimball to get into costume.
Sharon Wheatley has such a colorful dressing table filled with family photos, Come From Away cards, the Newfoundland flag, and Broadway.com's opening night Squigs portrait.
Sharon says she loves this discontinued lipstick because it doesn’t come off during all the kissing scenes. Luckily for her, they were sent an entire case for the run.
At half-hour call, Jenn Colella heads to the men's floor for their traditional pre-show push-ups.
One more of Joel & Jenn stretching it out.
So long for now. Don't miss Come From Away at Broadway's Schoenfeld Theatre.
