Photographer Jenny Anderson (who shot our fabulous Classic New York Films and Tony Awards Parties photos) brings BroadwayBox backstage for an exclusive series capturing Broadway companies getting ready to take the stage. For the next installment, Jenny heads to the Marquis Theatre, home to the fun, new Jimmy Buffett musical Escape to Margaritaville
as they get beach bum ready and prepare for a Wednesday matinee.First thing to know: backstage at the Marquis, you can expect to see plenty guitars and plenty of people playing guitars. It’s Buffett after all.
For example, Margaritaville showstopper Lisa Howard on her uke.
It’s Eric Petersen, looking dashing AF. Eric is just the most adorable as the musical’s island bartender, Brick.
Next, we check in with the super-talented ladies ensemble.
Samantha Farrow applies her makeup.
Jennifer Rias enjoys a laugh while putting on her eye makeup.
Ryann Redmond has been a complete joy in every Broadway musical she’s been in: Bring It On, If/Then, and now Escape to Margaritaville. Her airline security officer and bar piano player will have you LOL.
This photo is very on brand for Paul Alexander Nolan—we’ve got the guitar and the jersey.
Off to the wig room where we find one of the most fierce singers on Broadway, Ms. Rema Webb, getting in her big, braided Marley wig.
Keely Hutton (whose hubby Paul Alexander Nolan we just saw) assists in putting her wig in place.
Right back at ya, Keely!
Get ready for a little coconut telegraph medley as we pop in at different dressing rooms! First, leading lady Alison Luff.
Then Rema Webb painting on her brows and serving us so much diva with that fabulous wig.
And can we talk about this amazing and adorable trio of co-stars (Lisa Howard, Eric Petersen, & Don Sparks) jamming out on their ukuleles?!
Alison Luff has made her way over to co-star Paul Alexander Nolan’s dressing room to brush her teeth while he warms up on guitar.
Goofballs.
“Three chords is all you need”
These colorful Paul Tazewell costumes make me want to take a vacation!
Speaking of colorful, it’s Eric Petersen again capturing us capture him.
Warming up backstage is Mike Millan, who makes his Broadway debut as Jesús.
And Ryann Redmond striking a pose/stretching it out before the athletic Kelly Devine choreography.
It’s perpetual scene-stealer Andre Ward, who is an absolute delight as Jamal. His second act opener, “Volcano”, always brings a smile.
Eric Petersen does a little pre-show prop check behind the bar while standout dancer Brett Thiele stretches onstage.
Places for Escape to Margaritaville.
Jimmy Buffett himself surprised the audience during a quick pause in the show!
Yes, this lucky audience got to see the one-and-only Jimmy Buffett at the Jimmy Buffett musical.
Even the gang at E2M can’t resist a Jimmy Buffett sighting!
Steven Good also makes his B’way debut in Margaritaville. #ItsFiveOClockSomewhere
Thanks, Jimmy!
Tech issue over; you’ve officially be given a license to chill.
