It’s your last week to see Anastasia
’s fabulous OBC stars Derek Klena and Caroline O’Connor in the Broadway musical. The talented pair play their final performances as Dmitry and Countess Lily on March 25. If you haven’t heard Derek’s golden voice soar on “My Petersburg” or Caroline stop the show with “Land of Yesterday” live, then RUN to the Broadhurst before it's too late.BroadwayBox recently caught up with Anastasia star John Bolton (who shares most of his stage time with either Derek or Caroline) to get his take on working with the dynamic duo.
“Oh my gosh—so much to love on both counts. I've known the divine Caroline for years, and we just fit. Our sensibilities, our generation, our sense of humor, our work ethic. We drive each other nuts and we're deeply in love.
Even before I met her I was a fan of her work and I'm the luckiest guy to have gotten to do TWO Broadway shows with her.”
“I am in constant awe of her ability to find the comedic ‘pocket’ so precisely and so consistently. She is perfection. Standing beside Caroline as the audience falls in deep, mad love with her nightly has been one of the most satisfying things about Anastasia.”
“As for my boy Derek. Eh. He's ok.
Kidding.
I have never had so much fun working with another human being in my life. Derek and I show up at the theatre and laugh for 3 hours. Sometimes on stage at inappropriate moments. Sorry about that. But mostly off-stage and in our dressing rooms or wherever we wind up after the show.”
“He's one of the funniest people I have ever met: so quick-witted and smart and goofy and outright hilarious. He even laughs at my dad jokes. You work in a show with people and you move on to the next show and the next people. Occasionally you take one or two with you in life. Derek (and his amazing and beautiful fiancee Elycia)—are Forever People.”
See Derek Klena & Caroline O’Connor in Anastasia through March 25, and see John Bolton with new stars Zach Adkins & Vicki Lewis beginning at the Broadhurst Theatre March 27.
