This week was Broadway Week on The Today Show, and the theatre community turned it the hell out for national morning television! Scroll on for all the killer Broadway moments.
“Too Darn Hot” from Kiss Me, Kate
Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: The biggest dance showstopper of the Broadway season makes its way to TV. It’s all stunning, but I especially love the Corbin Bleu & James T. Lane tap break beginning with Corbin’s entrance at 2:16.
“The Whole Being Dead Thing” from Beetlejuice
Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: I did love Alex Brightman’s entrance to this number. It was clever to re-write and re-stage it for the medium, and it paid off. Also, Alex’s performance is just non-stop.
“The Way You Do the Things You Do” into “Ain’t Too Proud” from Ain’t Too Proud
Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Jeremy Pope is slaying it from the start. Every moment that camera is on him it’s a 🙌 moment. Then Ephraim Sykes comes in at 3:33 with that title song, and it’s jolt of electricity.
“Livin’ It Up On Top” from Hadestown
Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: First, Andre De Shields should describe every show, always. Second, Amber Gray is a step beyond everything and these dancers are magic.
“Song for the Lonely” from The Cher Show
Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Ok, book scene—I see you and I respect you. When SJB began singing at 1:13, I legit thought it was Cher for a second. Also loved Micaela Diamond’s moment at 2:30. Then the big belt fest at the end is Cher heaven.
