March 4th is National Marching Music Day!
According to the National Day Calendar, the day celebrates "music on the move." The first song that came to our mind? Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin's drum infused, toe tapping and cheerleading Act One showstopper in Legally Blonde's "What You Want."
Elle Woods takes us on a JOURNEY with this number and it is so much fun. We follow Elle hatching her plan on getting into Harvard Law to follow her former love Warner Huntington, III. The entire ensemble has moments to shine in this song and it's a joy to watch. It's a character actors heaven! From applying to Harvard Law, studying for the LSAT, and well... you know the rest!
One of our favorite moments in the whole musical's score (besides Vivienne's stratospheric belting in the title song's remix! - we see you Kate Shindle!!) is without a doubt in this song: the counterpoint moment at 4:16 in our first clip. Laura Bell Bundy as Elle singing the melody while Andy Karl raps - it's the best. Then by that point in the tune it is time for the grand marching band finale (with some legal jargon) worthy of any halftime show!
Let's have a look at 8 clips of this thrilling number that you most definitely won't object!
