The first annual Elsie Fest (named for Sally Bowles’ pills and liquor loving roommate) took place in New York City on September 27, and it was a smashing success. Headliners included founder Darren Criss, Laura Osnes, Lea Salonga, Seth Rudetsky, Leslie Odom Jr., and Aaron Tveit.
Everyone sang showtunes and it was heaven. But the moment of true bliss came when Aaron Tveit (Next to Normal, Catch Me If You Can) sang “Why God Why” from Miss Saigon—a role he is destined to play and a dreamcast moment only Elsie Fest could provide. Take a listen and then let’s have a group therapy session through GIF.
When you hear the intro and you’re like, 'Is this that Bieber song or Miss Saigon?'
Then he actually says the word “Saigon” and you’re like:
And soon images flood into your head of the inventible Broadway revival starring Aaron Tveit as Chris (with Eva Noblezada as Kim, obvi).

1:17 "Who is this girl in a rusty bed".
The acting. It’s a full performance.
Music break.
2:37. 2:37. 2:37
That moment you remember this individual has never received a Tony Award nomination.
And back to the music. Rewind because you missed some. 2:37 seems like a good place to start.
The “Why God” at 3:20. (Also mad props to the band.)
The “her” that lasts from 3:39-3:45 into the final phrasing.
And scene.
